How to Evaluate a Landscape Lighting Quote

Comparing landscape lighting quotes can be confusing, especially when two companies recommend different fixture counts, products, and designs.

The lowest quote is not always a bad choice, and the highest quote is not automatically the best. The important thing is understanding exactly what each proposal includes.

Look for specific fixture information

A detailed quote should identify the types of fixtures being installed. Ideally, it should also include the manufacturer, material, model, or general product line.

“Install 12 landscape lights” does not tell you much.

Those 12 lights could be plastic, aluminum, or solid brass. They could have replaceable lamps or sealed components. They may include a strong manufacturer warranty, or almost no coverage at all.

Review the complete installation scope

The quote should also explain:

  • What areas will be illuminated

  • The number and type of fixtures

  • Transformer size and location

  • Control or timer options

  • Mounting work

  • Paver, concrete, or trenching work

  • Cleanup and property restoration

  • Labor and product warranties

  • Payment schedule

Ask whether the transformer has room for future expansion. Replacing an undersized transformer later can add unnecessary cost if you decide to extend the system.

Compare the design, not just the fixture count

More fixtures do not always create a better result. A strong design may use fewer lights more effectively by selecting the correct beam angles, brightness levels, and placement.

You should also ask how the company plans to manage glare. Fixtures should highlight the property, not shine directly into windows, seating areas, neighbors’ homes, or passing drivers.

Watch for vague promises

Be cautious when a quote does not identify the products being used, offers unclear warranty language, or requires a large payment without explaining the project process.

A professional quote should make you feel informed, not pressured or confused.

At Lucid Nightscapes, we provide detailed design proposals so homeowners can understand what they are purchasing and why each fixture is included.
